The EDH Battle Royale V is back in full swing, and a whopping 81 generals are once again vying for the throne!

As a MTG tournament player at heart, I have always had a spot in my heart for tournaments. I love the excitement of doing well and the thrill of competition, and it’s always been a blast to compete when I can. Hence, every year, my little EDH playgroup has hosted a massive EDH tournament between our decks, to crown a champion. This tournament is called The EDH Battle Royale, and this year will mark the fifth time we have done this.

And of course, it is now time for us to wage war once again! Today, we’ll be looking at the first half of the quarterfinals!

A Deck From a Friend: Isperia the Inscrutable

Several years ago, I picked up the EDH format and introduced it to my casual playgroup, reinvigorating their interest in casual Magic and breathing new life into a lot of my older cards that had just been gathering dust. Since that time, I have received a few decks as Christmas gifts, and given away many more.

This year, I received two decks as gifts; the first was classic general Adun Oakenshield, sent to me by my baby brother Joel, which I took a look at in this article. The second is the one we’ll be talking about today, built around ‘flying tribal’: Isperia the Inscrutable, given to me by my friend Brianna.

Let’s take a look!

Is it really spoiler season time again? That was quick!

The entire spoiler for the newest MTG expansion Aether Revolt is out, and this looks like a very interesting set. There are plenty of great multiplayer cards, and lots of shiny toys that I’m looking forward to adding into my decks.

Last year’s sets gave us a ton of fun new EDH cards to work with, and many of my decks got a well-deserved makeover. The question becomes, does Aether Revolt continue that trend, and start our MTG year off right with great EDH cards?

It’s time to take a look at this new set!

A Deck From a Friend: Adun Oakenshield

Several years ago, I picked up the EDH format and introduced it to my casual playgroup, reinvigorating their interest in casual Magic and breathing new life into a lot of my older cards that had just been gathering dust. The deck that I started my foray into the Commander format with was Adun Oakenshield.

I had Oakenshield built for many years, but then disassembled it as it played too much like our Sedris, the Traitor King list. I had sent my copy of Oakenshield to my little brother Joel as a gift. Though it pained me to get rid of an old card (particularly one that I had a lot of fondness for), I wasn’t using Oakenshield, and figured my brother would.

Little did I know that he’d be sending me a Commander deck for Christmas this year, and this heralded the return of good old Oakenshield. Let’s take a look!
