The BOO Battle Box: Possible Themes, Part Three

laboratory_maniac

A short while back, I had gone over our next Challenge format: The BOO Battle Box, where Darby and I will be putting together 300+ custom cards to build a Battle Box out of. Battle Box is a great format, and I think that this will give Darby and myself something to channel our creative energy into while everyone is busy doing other things this year.

Thus far, I have looked at my Justice League animated heroes, which started my brainstorming around superheroes, followed by a look at my X-Men characters as well. Today, we’ll be looking at more of my created cards, as my BOO Battle Box set starts to come together and have a more-or-less coherent theme.

Let’s jump right in!

A Look Back at My Predictions: Eternal Masters

baneslayer_angel

With previews for Eternal Masters starting next week, I figured today would be a good day to take a quick look back at my predictions for the set before the big reveal next week!

Eternal Masters, a set designed to increase the supply of hard-to-find or pricey Eternal staples will be released this June. Very few preview cards for this set have thus far been released, with only the counterspell Force of Will at mythic rare, and Wasteland at rare thus far being confirmed. These two cards are basically the backbone of Legacy/Vintage, so their inclusion has people buzzing about this set.

As a hardcore Legacy player, naturally I’m really looking forward to this set!

Back in 2013, I had posted my predictions for the original Modern Masters set. I did fairly well; I had correctly predicted 9/15 mythics, and 19/53 rares correctly; this meant that I was 40% right, which was a good enough success rate that I considered this round of predictions to be a success. When Modern Masters 2015 was spoiled, I did another round of predictions; this time with a much lower success rate – I was only 30% right this time.

Today’s article will be my predictions for what will be in this awesome-sounding set, so let’s go!

Single Card Discussion: Westvale Abbey

malfegor

Hello and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Zendikar Resurgent and Kalemne’s Captain, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem that I feel has been sadly overlooked.

Today’s card is one that I’ve thought was amazing since it was first spoiled for Shadows Over Innistrad, and despite the love it’s received from Standard players, I’m shocked that more people don’t mention it for EDH. Today’s card is the transform land, Westvale Abbey. This is a great land and a huge lategame threat, and despite my general dislike of transform cards in general, I’ve added it into several of our EDH decks.

Let’s take a deeper look at this potent card!

Four-Color Generals, Finally! and Building Four-Color Manabases

glint_eye_nephilim

I came home today to a ton of Wizards news, but to me, the most welcome announcement was hearing that we will finally be getting EDH precons with four-color generals.

Finally!

I’ve been wanting a set of four-color generals ever since I started my EDH Project, which was to have a deck built for each color combination. It always bothered me that there were no four-color generals, meaning that if you wanted to build a deck for every possible combiation of colors, you couldn’t, really (which bothered my OCD to no end).

Today’s article is going to take a quick look at my thoughts on four-color generals, and take a look back at a post I made back in 2013 about building four-color EDH manabases. Let’s go!

Single Card Discussion: Kalemne’s Captain

Hello and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Zendikar Resurgent and General Tazri, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem that I feel goes sadly overlooked.

Today’s card is one that I’ve liked since it was first spoiled for Commander 2014, and I’m shocked that more people don’t mention it: the white Giant, Kalemne’s Captain. This is one hell of a Disenchant effect and a great tribal card, and I’ve added it into many of our decks.

Let’s take a deeper look at this potent creature!

Hello and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Wretched Confluence and General Tazri, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem.

Today’s card is one that I’ve liked since it was first spoiled this year, and I’m shocked that more people don’t love it: Zendikar Resurgent, from Oath of the Gatewatch. This is one hell of a card, and I’ve added it into many of our decks.

Let’s take a deeper look at this powerful enchantment!

On Monday, we looked at my Justice League animated heroes, which started my brainstorming around superheroes. Today, we’ll be looking at a continuation of this theme, as I explore more comic book superheroes and villains.

Random Friday: Rebuilding the Allies

karona_false_god

Welcome to another edition of Random Friday, the article series where I go over changes to my different EDH decks in detail (and where I trash them and rebuild them into something better).

There were a number of my decks last year that were on the chopping block after disappointing performances and poor games, and many were culled or changed. Much as I have done before, this year I am once again redoing decks that just aren’t working; this may involve either changing some cards around deck to deck, changing who the general of the deck is, or completely overhauling the entire deck.

Today, we’re rebuilding an entire deck, and giving it an overhaul that goes with its new, sexier general: we’re rebuilding tribal Allies, which is currently led by Karona, False God, into the new Ally general, General Tazri!

What will the sleek new Allies look like? Let’s take a look!
