On a Break.

time_stop

Every so often, there comes a time where you have to step away from something you’ve created, and just let it percolate, let it sit for a while. In this case, I’m taking the rest of the summer off, not for lack of topics to write about, but due to my impending wedding… I really won’t have time to write anything while I’m setting that up in two months’ time.

So everyone enjoy Magic Origins, and I’ll likely be back for the fall!

Single Card Discussion: Reaper from the Abyss

ob_nixilis

Hello, and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Hua Tuo, Honored Physician and Loaming Shaman, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem.

Today’s card is one that I’ve liked since it’s initial release, and I’m surprised that it doesn’t get more love in multiplayer circles: Reaper from the Abyss, from Innistrad. That this card isn’t more well-known is somewhat surprising, since it’s an awesome, highly useful giant black flier.

Let’s take a look!

Spotlight On: Brianna’s Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice

avacyn_restored

Hello, and welcome back to my Spotlight Series, after a long hiatus! It’s taken me awhile to get back to this series, but I’m planning to jump right in and start looking at other people’s decks in detail. To recap the Spotlight Series, in each article, I’ll be selecting and ‘spotlighting’ another EDH player’s deck, and going over the 99 choices they’ve made and any suggestions or changes that I’d make to the deck were I to play it myself. For this series, I’ve been choosing decks that are fun to play and play against, and decks that have a great theme behind them.

For today’s article, we’re looking at something completely different. I’ve been focusing mostly on aggressive decks, like Bosh or Hidetsugu, so for today, I’ll be looking at a friend’s W/G token-swarm deck: Brianna’s Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice! Let’s dive in, and take a look at her deck!

Random Friday: Rebuilding Rakdos (again), Part One

kaervek_the_merciless

Welcome to another edition of Random Friday, the article series where I go over changes to my different EDH decks in detail (and where I trash them and rebuild them into something better).

There are a number of my decks this year that are on the chopping block after disappointing performances in The EDH Battle Royale III, and other various games. Much as I have done the past two years, I’m looking at redoing these decks that just aren’t working; this may involve either changing some cards around deck to deck, or changing who the general of the deck is, or completely overhauling the entire deck. Along that same line, some of the random decks that I built just for The EDH Battle Royale III happened to be awesome and fun, and so I’ll be keeping them around, and tweaking and updating them to make them better.

Today, we’re rebuilding a colour combination that, much like the Boros colors, I have rebuilt more than once: the Rakdos colours, red/black. Currently, I have our Rakdos deck built as Rakdos, Lord of Riots, and he has been profoundly disappointing. What will I rebuild this deck into? Let’s take a look!

Single Card Discussion Double-Header: Hua Tuo and Loaming Shaman

maelstrom_wanderer

Hello, and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Glare of Subdual and Shrouded Lore, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem.

Today’s card is actually multiple cards, as we are looking at a duo of green cards that recur cards from your graveyard: Hua Tuo, Honored Physician, an obscure little guy from the rare Portal Three Kingdoms set, and Loaming Shaman, from the original Ravnica block. That these cards aren’t more well-known is somewhat surprising, since they are each a very unique effect for green to have.

Let’s take a look!
