Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope the holidays have been full of fun and family cheer, and that everyone had a good time! I’ll be starting the site back up in January, with the EDH Battle Royale III, lots of Fate Reforged (a set that looks pretty sweet so far), and more.

2014 was a good year for Magic. Here’s hoping for more in 2015!

Happy Holidays!

I’ll be taking some time off from the website until the New Year, so everyone stay safe and enjoy your holidays! We’ll be back with more EDH, more Battle Royale III, more BOO sets, the Fate Reforged prerelease, and just more Magic in general in the New Year!

Yeva, Nature’s Herald: Breakdown

Earlier this week, I went over my thought process behind building an EDH deck as a Xmas present for a friend of mine, Darby, this year. That deck was Yeva, Nature’s Herald, and you can read my introduction to the deck here.

Today, we’ll be going over the breakdown of the deck, to see how it ticks, and why the cards are in there. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Yeva, Nature’s Herald: Introduction

Two years ago, for Christmas, I’d built several EDH decks to give away to various friends and family. I’d created an Isperia deck for my friend Darby, to force him outside of his comfort zone; then, I’d created a budget Mayael list for my baby brother Joel; next, I’d given away a budget version of Kaalia of the Vast to our friend Brianna; and finally, I’d given my girlfriend Angela a five-color planeswalker deck, Progenitus.

Last year, I ran out of time to build anything for people, and gave away generic Xmas gifts. I thought at the time that this was unfortunate, since creating an EDH deck like this for a friend was an excellent way to give someone a personalized gift, and was always fun for me to do.

This year, one of my major gameplans was to once again build several Christmas EDH decks, that I could give away to friends and family. Back in November, I went over the first of these decks, a B/R aggressive deck that I’d built for our friend Brianna led by the aggressive Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch, here and here.

Today, we’ll be going over the second of these Xmas decks, which was built for our friend Darby: mono-green, led by the super-tricksy Yeva, Nature’s Herald! Let’s jump right in and see what I put together for Darby this year!

The EDH Battle Royale III: Matches 6 and 7

Our annual EDH Battle Royale III is still going strong, with lots of crazy action and fun plays. In our last match, Karn, Silver Golem was able to defeat Zirilan of the Claw‘s Dragon tribal deck, and the lovable and wacky Jalum Grifter‘s deck of chaos cards. Karn advances to the quarterfinals to face Brianna’s G/W token-making menace, Trostani, Selesnya’s Voice.

Today, we have not one, but two matchups for you. In our first match, we determine the next quarterfinalist who will move on to face Trostani and Karn. This is our matchup:

Match 6: Cromat vs. The Mimeoplasm vs. Titania, Protector of Argoth

Who will win this matchup, and advance to face Trostani and Karn? Let’s find out!
