The EDH Battle Royale II — Building the Surprise Entrants, Part One

the_hippodrome

With the second annual EDH Battle Royale coming up very, very soon, it was time for me to put together some extra entrants for our upcoming event. These extra entrants could be just about anything, and I was looking forward to putting some unique decks together for it.

This will be a quick look at the decks that I’m setting up as our surprise entrants. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Random Friday: Rebuilding Thromok and Krond

nekusar_the_mindrazer

(Editor’s note: As with last “Friday’s” article, this was not scheduled properly, so Friday’s article is now Monday. I promise, I do actually know what day of the week it is!)

Back in January, I started a series of articles dedicated to rebuilding my EDH decks. One of my plans in the new year was to rebuild my EDH decks that weren’t performing the way I wanted them to. Thus far, I’d rebuilt several of my decks; I started with my Necra deck, which was transformed from Ghave, Guru of Spores into Doran, the Siege Tower here. Next, I’d renovated my Boros list, changing Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer into Brion Stoutarm here. The lovely Angela had changed our Dimir deck from Vela the Night-Clad to the new and exciting Lazav, Dimir Mastermind here. Then, I changed our Rakdos deck to Rakdos, Lord of Riots here. Finally, I rebuilt my Aura-based Bruna, Light of Alabaster deck here.

In that same vein, it’s time to go over some other changes that I’m making to other decks. In today’s update, we’ll be going over the new decklists I’ve built for Planechase II legends Thromok the Insatiable and Krond, the Dawn-Clad. Let’s go!

Random Friday: Rebuilding Bruna

(Editor’s note: This article was slated to go up on Friday, but due to a local comic convention named Hal-Con, I forgot to post it. Hence, it’s going up now!)

An Update: Playing Archenemy with a Hydra pet

progenitus_edh

Back on Oct 23rd, I went over my experiences at Theros’s Game Day, and my thoughts on the ‘Facing the Hydra’ challenge. I mentioned that I’d bought two of the Hydra decks, with the plan of adding all the Heads from one deck into the other deck, and fixing up the deck to be more of a challenge in multiplayer. I’d also mentioned that I was looking forward to some multiplayer EDH, with several players playing good guys, and one player as the Archenemy, with the Hydra as their ‘pet.’

Well, I’ve had the chance to try it, and it’s both pretty awesome, and damn challenging to try to beat. Here are my thoughts on this ‘format.’

The EDH Battle Royale II!

the_hippodrome

Last year around this time, in the big lull between the fall big set and the February expansion, I set up a swiss-style tournament between all my EDH decks, which I called The EDH Battle Royale. The idea was simple: which EDH deck would prove to be the best among 32 of our decks?

The battle raged fiercely for three-quarters of a month, and when the dust cleared, Sedris, the Traitor King was our ultimate winner. And now, a year later… it’s time to wage war once again!

It’s time for The EDH Battle Royale II!

Random Friday: Building around Nekusar, the Mindrazer

nekusar_the_mindrazer

For this Friday’s article, I figured we’d do something a little different. Today marks the release of the 2013 Commander pre-con decks, and thus I figured we would sit down and brainstorm a deck to mark their release. A deck built around one of the new, exciting generals. A new type of deck, one that I don’t already have as part of my vast EDH collection of decks, with a unique strategy.

A deck built around… Nekusar, the Mindrazer! What kind of diabolical deck can we come up with to match this new general? Let’s find out!
