The BOO Draft: Drafting our set, finally! Part Two

the_hippodrome

A month ago, I went over The BOO Draft, a “Build Our Own” draft where seven creative friends and I would be creating 45 cards each to do a booster draft with. I went over the 45 cards that I’d submitted for this draft, the theme that I’d gone with of choices, and had some previews of each other player’s set as well.

This past weekend, it was finally time. The sets were revealed, and everyone knew what to expect. Everyone had their sleeves and dice ready, and were pumped and ready to game. What would happen when we finally sat down to draft our BOO set? Who would win our prize for best theme, and who would ultimately become our first-ever BOO Draft champion?

I’m glad you asked.

Predictions: FTV: 20 — Followup

command_tower

Back in February, WotC announced that they’d be doing a From the Vaults: 20 this year, with 20 iconic cards from throughout Magic’s history. At that time, I did an article with my predictions for what 20 cards would be in the set, with my reasoning on each one. You can read that article here, and my followup (once I realized that I’d accidentally chosen cards on the Reserved list) here.

Now, with the full set of twenty cards being spoiled, it’s time to look back on my predictions and see how well I did! So far this year, my predictions have been hit or miss (I predicted the return of Slivers in M14 and much of Modern Masters, but missed on a lot of Commander’s Arsenal).

What did I get right, and what did I miss on?

It’s time to find out!

The BOO Draft: My Final Thoughts Going In

A month ago, I went over The BOO Draft, a “Build Our Own” draft where seven creative friends and I would be creating 45 cards each to do a booster draft with. I went over the 45 cards that I’d submitted for this draft, the theme that I’d gone with of choices, and had some previews of each other player’s set as well.

Finally, I had revealed each player’s set of 45 cards to the world. We had started with my girlfriend Angela’s set, Munchkin here and here. Joel’s set, The Road Builders, was up next, here. Then, I covered Darby’s cards “Random Darby-ness” here and here. From there, I covered Chris’s colored cards from his set, The Wastes here and gold cards here. Then, we covered the first half of Jay’s Egypt-flavored set, Eunead here and the second part of his set here. Then, we went over Brianna’s set “Squirrels Are Cute, Tee-Hee” here and here. And finally, we went over Jason’s set, “Power Creep City,” here and here.

Today, I’ll be going over my final thoughts on the BOO Draft set as a whole; draft archetypes, cards I would like to open, and how I see this all playing out. Let’s go!
