Hour of Devastation… Sphinx tribal?!

The last year or so has been a pretty good time to be playing EDH. Lots of new cards tailored for our format, from giant monsters, to big silly spells, and everything in between.

As I went over on Monday, spoilers have started for the next set, Hour of Devastation, the sequel to the Egypt-themed Amonkhet, and it looks like Wizards very much has us EDH players in mind with this set… in fact, it looks like they even have cards planned for those of us who love tribal EDH decks!

But not just any tribe… tribal Sphinxes?! Let’s take a look at the new legend previewed today!

The Tribal Throwdown: Preliminary Matches 1-3

It’s no secret, I’ve always liked Magic tournaments. The thrill of doing well is a natural high, and it’s always fun to see who can do the best.

Well, we have started our Tribal Throwdown tourney, where we’ll be smashing the various tribes of MTG (Zombies, Elves, Merfolk, etc) together to find out who is the best tribe, and which tribe will come out on top.

And today’s first match is an odd one:

Match 1: Jalira, Master Polymorphist (Sea Monsters) vs. Kaseto, Orochi Archmage (Snakes) vs. Kruphix, God of Horizons (Eldrazi) vs. Jazal Goldmane (Cats)

Let’s take a look!

The Tribal Throwdown — Building the Surprise Entrants, Part Three

It’s no secret, I’ve always liked Magic tournaments. The thrill of doing well is a natural high, and it’s always fun to see who can do the best.

We have a tribal EDH tourney called The Tribal Throwdown coming up on the horizon, where we’ll be smashing the various tribes of MTG (Zombies, Elves, Merfolk, etc) together to find out who is the best tribe, and which tribe will come out on top.

As I’ve done for each of our other tourneys, I’ve built a number of surprise entrants for this one. Today, we’ll be looking at the latest batch of these entrants, and discuss them in some detail.

Let’s take a look!

Archenemy – Nicol Bolas: First Impressions

Wizards has spoiled their latest MTG supplemental product, Archenemy: Nicol Bolas, and I wanted to touch quickly on it today. Though I don’t believe the first Archenemy sold very well seven years ago, I was a huge fan of it, and I did pick up all the schemes to use in multiplayer every so often.

Now, with the latest Archenemy set being Nicol Bolas themed, it’s time to take a look and see what the evil Elder Dragon has in store for poor hapless heroes!

Hidden Gems #24: Even More Wrath of God effects

Hello, and welcome to another edition of EDH’s Hidden Gems! Inspired by my recent article spotlighting Commander 2015’s green Wrath, Ezuri’s Predation, in today’s followup edition of EDH Hidden Gems, I will be tackling some recent Wrath of God variants, and hopefully shedding some light on sweeper spells that I never see anyone use in Commander.

Let’s take a look!

Single Card Discussion: Ezuri’s Predation

Hello and welcome back to the Single Card Discussion series! After my pieces on Amonkhet’s new Mouth // Feed and Commander 2013 gem Opal Palace, it’s time to take a look at yet another multiplayer gem that I feel has been sadly overlooked.

Today’s card is one that I’ve thought was highly useful since it was first spoiled, and though it does see play, I’m shocked that more players haven’t looked at it for EDH. Today’s card is the Commander 2015 green Wrath, Ezuri’s Predation.

Let’s take a deeper look at this powerful sweeper!

Rumored Leaks from Commander 2017

This summer, we’re being treated to an early gift (depending on how you look at it): this year’s batch of EDH pre-constructed decks, which this year, are tribal decks.

Well, someone has posted some spoilers on Twitter as to the various contents of one of the decks, and these are fairly legit looking… so let’s take a look at them, and see what impact they will have (if real).
